History Day Competition
ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State’s Department of History hosts the West Kentucky History Competition annually in March. There are two competitions, one for Middle Schools and one for High Schools. In 2023, the competitions will be held on March 7 and 9 in the Curris Center.
The competition consists of multiple-choice tests in United States History and World History. Students can compete individually and as part of school teams. Schools can register a maximum of fifteen students for team competition. The Middle School Competition covers either United States History to 1865 or World History to 1500. The High School Competition covers either United States History since 1865 or World History since 1500. Each test features tiebreaker questions based on current events.
Awards are given for each competition at a closing ceremony. Individual awards for each exam as well as team awards for each exam are given. Individual awards are based on students’ scores on the exam and team awards are based on the average score of all team members.
Pre-registration as well as a registration fee are required to participate. Registration is due by February 10, 2023.
