Faculty Awards and Recognition
Faculty Awards and Recognition
Recognition of faculty endeavor and achievement has always been a priority of the university and duly notes the contributions made by faculty in support of enhanced scholastic opportunities and engaged development of the region. In 2003, the Faculty Recognition Banquet was initiated to reflect on and celebrate many of the outstanding accomplishments of ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Faculty. Dr. Terry Strieter, Faculty Regent, and Dr. Gary Brockway, Provost, worked with Mr. Jim Carter and Dr. Don Robertson, Vice Presidents, to transition the official acknowledgement of various faculty accolades to a single university event. The Faculty Recognition Banquet has become an ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State tradition supported by alumni, faculty, and students. The following awards sponsored by Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Alumni Association are acknowledged at the annual event held the third Thursday of April during the campus’s Scholars Week celebration.
This recognition is awarded by the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú Alumni Association. Established in 1964, the award recognizes teaching excellence and classroom performance, professional activity, and service to the University.
Each year, the Research Policy Committee selects recipients of the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Alumni Association Distinguished Researcher Award, which is intended to recognize excellence in research and reflects the significance of faculty research to the educational environment at ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú. The Distinguished Researcher receives a $1000 cash award, and the researcher’s name is engraved on the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Alumni Association Distinguished Research Award plaque located in the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Alumni Center.
Each year, the Research Policy Committee selects two recipients of the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Alumni Association Emerging Scholar Award. This award recognizes superior research, scholarly, or creative work conducted by ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú faculty members who are in the early phase of their careers and who show professional promise. Significant achievements associated with the nomineeʼs work should have been realized while the nominee has held a faculty position at the University. Two prizes will be awarded: one in the area of science, technology and mathematics, the second in the area of the arts, literature, humanities, and social sciences. Each Emerging Scholar receives a $500 cash award, and the researcher’s name is engraved on the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Alumni Association Emerging Scholar Award plaque located in the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Alumni Center.
This award is juried by the Research Policy Committee. This highly competitive award is presented in even years to a full-time faculty, professional staff, or administrative faculty engaged in research, scholarship, or creative activity that results in a significant contribution to their professional field.
The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs presents the Distinguished Mentor Award to recognize the considerable efforts and accomplishments of a full-time faculty member who serves as an effective and motivational teacher, advocate, sponsor, and role model to students. Recipients are acknowledged on a permanent plaque in the Office of the Provost, 333 Wells Hall.
The Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Awards have been instituted as an annual effort by the ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú State Board of Regents to honor faculty members who, in the judgment of peers, deserve recognition as exemplary teachers. The recipients receive a bound certificate signed by the Board Chair and University President and an $1000 monetary award. Plaques of award recipients are hung in Heritage Hall.
