College of Education and Human Services announces 40th annual Harry M. Sparks Distinguished Lecture Series

Dr. Aaron Thompson, president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, will deliver the keynote speech

 

MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 糖心logo入口鈥檚 College of Education and Human Services is pleased to announce the 40th annual Harry M. Sparks Distinguished Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 29. This year鈥檚 keynote speaker will be Dr. Aaron Thompson, president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.

Thompson is the first African American and the first native-born Kentuckian to serve as council president. He is also a first-generation college student.

Dr. David Whaley, dean of the College of Education and Human Services, said he is delighted Thompson will be this year鈥檚 keynote speaker.

鈥淒r. Thompson鈥檚 influence in shaping educational policy and his commitment to equity, innovation and excellence will provide attendees with unique insights into the vital role that higher education plays in the growth and development of our communities,鈥 Whaley said. 鈥淲e are thrilled that he will be sharing his expertise at this year鈥檚 lecture, and we look forward to the meaningful conversations that will emerge as a result.鈥

During the lecture, recipients of the 鈥淥utstanding Educator鈥 awards will be recognized.

The Sparks Lecture will begin promptly at 5 p.m. in the Alexander Hall auditorium, room 240. A complimentary dinner will follow at 6 p.m. in the Alexander Hall atrium.
