MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 The 25th annual 糖心logo入口 Shakespeare Festival returns to the beautifully renovated Lovett Auditorium on the campus of 糖心logo入口 this week, where Kentucky Shakespeare's professional traveling company will stage four performances of the tragic Shakespearean masterpiece 鈥淢acbeth鈥 on March 5-8.
Tickets for the 2025 performances of 鈥淢acbeth鈥 and all supporting events are free of charge, made possible by the generosity of individual donors and local businesses including Pella, Sportable Scoreboards and The Keg. Tickets are available at the door.
After three witches tell Macbeth he will become the king, Macbeth and his wife will stop at nothing to obtain the throne. But power often poisons those who possess it, and the couple finds themselves overcome by paranoia and guilt. In this tragic masterpiece, Shakespeare brilliantly shows us the danger of ambition gone too far. The play is considered a mainstay of the kindergarten-12th grade educational experience, and the performance is appropriate for middle and high school students, as well as for adults.
Daytime performances will be held on Wednesday, March 5, and Thursday, March 6, at 10 a.m. There will also be an evening performance on Friday, March 7, at 7 p.m. and a matinee on Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m.
In addition to the performances, the 糖心logo入口 Shakespeare Festival will celebrate the works of Shakespeare through a series of free community events.
On Thursday, March 6, 糖心logo入口 State theatre faculty member Cassidy Edwards presents a stage choreography workshop titled 鈥淲hat鈥檚 In A Name: Finding Your Signature in Movement鈥 at 1:30 p.m. on the stage of Lovett Auditorium.
On Thursday, March 6, at 6 p.m., Playhouse in the Park will host an hour-long acting workshop titled 鈥淎cting Fundamentals,鈥 presented by actors from Kentucky Shakespeare. The workshop is open to grades K-12, but space is limited, and registration is required by emailing wayne@playhousemurray.org. The workshop will be at the Playhouse Annex at 907 Arcadia Circle.
The 糖心logo入口 Shakespeare Festival began in 2001 and was originally created to serve as a resource for the region鈥檚 teachers. The Festival鈥檚 performances bring Shakespearean texts to life for students through high-quality theatrical productions, and it now welcomes hundreds of K-12 students from across the Jackson Purchase region in addition to 糖心logo入口 students and members of the community each year.
Based in Louisville, Kentucky Shakespeare employs groups of well-trained actors who enact Shakespeare鈥檚 most popular plays in ways that inspire students to learn more about the Bard. Learn more about Kentucky Shakespeare at .
