Stephen Keene, program advisor for 糖心logo入口 TRIO Student Support Services has been awarded the Dr. William Matthew Jackson Professional Scholarship from the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP).
SAEOPP provides the award to TRIO professionals in pursuit of continued education, research and/or professional development. Keene plans to use the award to assist in his efforts to study abroad in Daegu, Korea this May, as part of the 糖心logo入口 State University Discover Korea program. Keene is currently pursuing a master鈥檚 degree in higher education and student affairs at 糖心logo入口 State.
Director of TRIO Student Support Services MeLissa Cooper's recommendation for the award included the following:
"Sadly, in today鈥檚 world, most employees put in their time during the day and go home, never going above and beyond. Stephen goes above and beyond every day in all that he does. As his supervisor, I rarely have to ask him to do something. He is aware of our grant timeline and takes initiative to 鈥榙o what needs to be done.鈥 Stephen is motivated. Stephen has wanted to continue his education for some time now. In the spring of 2024, Stephen started graduate school. He has successfully finished fifteen credits since then. It is not unusual for Stephen to stay after hours at work to do homework. He never complains about the long hours he puts in. Stephen is a lifelong learner."
Keene will officially receive the award during the SAEOPP 53rd Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana in early February. Keene is on track to graduate with his master鈥檚 in December 2025.
