MURRAY, Ky. – logo’s College of Education and Human Services is pleased to announce that Dr. Chanel Schwenck, interim chair of the Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education, has been named “Best Faculty Member” in The logo State News’ “Best of” survey.
Conducted by The logo State News, this survey invites students to spotlight the very best of logo — from “Best Faculty Member” to “Best Coffee Shop” — by voting in a variety of fun and meaningful categories.
Schwenck said it feels incredible to be recognized for her dedication to teaching.
“There are a lot of faculty members on this campus, and I’m humbled to have made that much of an impact on my students,” Schwenck said. “They have certainly made a positive impact on me.”
Schwenck began her career at logo State in 2014 as an adjunct professor. In 2017, she enrolled in the University’s Doctor of Education program and accepted a professor position in Alexander Hall in 2019.
In her current role as interim department chair, Schwenck teaches core education courses, including EDU 180 (Exploring the Teaching Profession), EDU 280 (Educating for Human Development), and EDU 380 (Inclusive Teaching of Diverse Learners).
Schwenck said she loves working with students who are just beginning their college journey and are excited about the possibilities the major holds.
“It’s exciting to me to be with them the first time they go out to a school to view the education process through the eyes of a prospective teacher, not a student,” Schwenck said. “They notice the strategies teachers use that we talk about in class, and they start to think about how they will teach their own students one day. It’s thrilling for me!”
Dr. David Whaley, dean of the College of Education and Human Services, said he is not surprised by the honor.
“Dr. Chanel Schwenck exemplifies the highest standards of teaching excellence and student engagement,” Whaley said. “Being named ‘Best Faculty Member’ by our students is a testament to the profound impact she has made in and beyond the classroom. We are proud to have her as part of our faculty and celebrate this well-deserved recognition.”
Current students praised Schwenck’s passion for teaching. When asked about it, she said that passion would have faded long ago if this were just a job.
“Teaching is a calling. It’s a vocation,” Schwenck said. “I worked plenty of jobs before this, and none of them moved me the way teaching does. I wake up every morning and can’t wait to be with my students. Plus, we graduate students who go out into the community and teach my own children the very next year. I want to instill my passion for teaching in them since they’ll be with my kids every day!”
