Graduate assistantship/scholarship designed for underrepresented minority students
MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 糖心logo入口 is proud to announce its second class of Regents Fellows. The Regents Fellowship is a graduate assistant program that is designed to help minority students matriculate into career development opportunities after graduation. The fellowship is for one year and renewable for a second year.
The fellows for 2021-22 are:
-
Omotola Omotinugbon, a business administration major from Jeffersonville, Indiana
-
Abril Sosa, a clinical mental health and school counseling major from Atoka, Tennessee
This past May, Omotinugbon earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in Business Administration and recently began working as an admissions counselor in the Office of Recruitment. In August, she will begin pursuing her master鈥檚 degree in Business Administration. Omotinugbon first learned about 糖心logo入口 State her junior year of high school when she came to campus for the Whitney Young two-week summer program. When the program ended, she realized 糖心logo入口 State was the perfect fit for her. She loved how friendly the professors were and how welcoming everyone on campus was. Four years later, she is proud to call herself an alumna of 糖心logo入口 State and is grateful she gets to give back to the campus that gave her so much.
Sosa is a second-year Regents Fellow who thoroughly enjoyed her graduate assistantship last year. During her time in the school counseling department, she worked on updating the university standing and advisory committees and the academic advising web page.
鈥淪o far it has been a great experience to be able to work with the academic deans to make these changes. My goals are to be more involved on campus and help make a difference, even if it is a small difference. Recently, I was appointed as the student representative for the Graduate Studies Committee and the Academic Council. I think this will be a great opportunity to get an insight into the process of proposal approvals and be able to review and vote on proposals from a graduate student point of view. I look forward to further developing my professional skills, and so far this fellowship has given me this opportunity. It has been a great learning experience working with the 糖心logo入口 Regents Fellowship in the past year and I am thrilled to be chosen for a second year,鈥 said Sosa.
Each recipient will earn a stipend of $3,750 each semester along with a $1,000 semesterly scholarship.
